Saffron Extract is an organic compound isolated from saffron.Saffron Extract contains carotene compounds, mainly C16H26O7, C44H64O26·H2O, crocin-1-4，picrocrocin，crocetin dimethyl ester，a-crocetin and va-crocetin.It is believed that safranal is a degradation product of the carotenoid zeaxanthin via the intermediacy of picrocrocin.Saffron Extract is an effective anticonvulsant shown to act as an agonist at GABAA receptors. Saffron Extract also exhibits high antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity, along with cytotoxicity towards cancer cells in vitro. It has also been shown to have antidepressant properties.

Saffron Extract has the following effects:
